Juan joined KAUST University in Fall 2012, where he is currently a PhD Candidate in Electrical Engineering.

In July 2012 he graduated with honors from Sapienza University in Rome, with a MS Thesis in Theoretical Physics. His work, carried out under the supervision of A. Fratalocchi, was focused on the computational study of Casimir Forces in disordered systems. The thesis involved the development of an advanced FDTD code for the computation of Casimir Forces, a quantum mechanical effect deriving from instantaneous dipole interactions between the inner components of macroscopic objects, and its application to disordered many-body systems.

His BS and MS studies focused on theoretical physics and statistical mechanics of disordered systems, with a special focus on classical and quantum field theories. His current work is based on the application of theoretical physics concepts and methods into electrodynamics and photonics in the presence of disorder.
